Callie’s

Berlin, Germany

Callie’s is a non-profit experimental institution in Berlin dedicated to fostering creativity and cultural exchange through its residency program, exhibitions, and public programs. Housed in a former machine factory in the Wedding district, Callie’s offers private studio spaces, a movement studio with a sprung floor, a cooperative sound studio, and a dedicated writing room. The residency is self-guided, allowing artists at any stage of their careers to explore new ideas without production requirements. Artists-in-residence can also request on-site accommodation in micro-apartments, designed with handmade and custom elements. Callie’s fosters an open and interdisciplinary environment, with periodic informal gatherings, networking opportunities, and access to Berlin’s rich cultural landscape. While the residency covers workspace and resources, it does not provide direct funding for travel or materials. The program is open to visual artists, musicians, choreographers, writers, poets, and researchers, supporting a wide range of creative practices. Residencies typically last six months, with some flexibility for shorter stays.

A|S Boutique Residence

La Habana, Cuba

A|S Boutique Residence is a luxury artist residency program located in a privately owned 5-star boutique hotel in the heart of UNESCO World Heritage site Old Havana, Cuba. Created by Amsterdam-based owner and artist Andre Visser and his partner Sandy Solano, the program offers emerging and established artists an unparalleled artistic experience in one of the world's most creative neighborhoods. The residency provides luxury accommodations in a meticulously restored 19th-century palatial mansion featuring 9 luxury suites, Art Gallery HAV, organic restaurant, and tropical garden patios. The program includes curated workshops with local artists, studio visits with contemporary Cuban artists and curators, museum visits, and collaborative opportunities, culminating in exhibitions at the on-site art gallery.

Atelier Mondial

Atelier Mondial is an international and interdisciplinary artist residency program in Basel, Switzerland, hosting guest artists from partner institutions worldwide in its seven studios for stays typically lasting three to six months. It provides live-in studios, stipends for living expenses, and opportunities for open studios and exhibitions at Salon Mondial. Rimbun Dahan is a private arboretum and arts centre in Kuang, Malaysia, established in 1994, offering residencies primarily for visual artists, choreographers, writers, and researchers from Southeast Asia to develop their work in a serene garden setting.[1][2][5] It provides various programs including the Southeast Asian Arts Residency for ASEAN artists (2 months, with accommodation, studio, stipend, and limited travel support) and paid options for non-ASEAN artists longer than one month.[1][4] The centre hosts 16-20 artists at a time across 5 studios, focusing on Malaysian and regional creators while welcoming international engagement.[2]

Instituto Sacatar is the longest continuously-operating artist residency in Brazil, founded in 2001 on the island of Itaparica across the bay from Salvador, Bahia. Since its inception, Sacatar has awarded residencies to over 550 artists from more than 75 countries.

Surel’s Place

Surel’s Place offers month-long residencies to professional visual, literary, and performance artists, providing a supportive environment to focus on their work. Located in Garden City, Idaho, the residency includes a well-equipped studio and comfortable living quarters. Residents receive free rent, utilities, Wi-Fi, a modest living stipend, and a travel stipend. The program encourages artists to engage with the community through workshops and public events, fostering a deep connection with local audiences. Surel’s Place values technically advanced and conceptually valuable artwork and supports artists who seek to connect with an audience. One of the five residencies each cycle includes outreach to local schools, enhancing community involvement. The facility includes amenities such as garden spaces, a library, and bicycles for transportation. Surel’s Place emphasizes a non-smoking environment and welcomes partners but cannot accommodate children or pets.

Villa Medici – French Academy in Rome
