The numbers behind residency funding, from 2,105 programs worldwide: 34% pay a stipend, 81% include housing, and 31% are fully funded — both stipend and housing, at no cost to the artist. Figures are extracted from each program's own listing and refreshed as listings change.

Application fees
17 listings state an application-fee policy outright: 11 charge nothing to apply, 6charge a fee. The rest leave it unstated — worth checking before you budget application season.
Cost to attend
Attendance cost is the classic hidden variable. Of the 288 listings that state it, 220 are explicitly free to attend and 68 charge a residency or program fee. 173 programs state travel support, and 175 state an exact stipend amount.

Figures are extracted from each residency's own program listing (structured extraction over 2,105published listings), then normalized. “Fully funded” means the program provides both a stipend and housing. Where a listing doesn't state a fact, it's counted as unstated rather than assumed. Data refreshes as listings change. Cite freely with a link (CC BY 4.0).
