Artist Residency in Trieste: A Sanctuary of Stillness, Culture, and Creation

Artist Residency in Trieste: A Sanctuary of Stillness, Culture, and Creation

Trieste, Italy

Deadline: Sep 30, 2026

Take time to slow down. Unplug. Breathe deeply. Let yourself be renewed by the sea wind, the scent of wild herbs, and the timeless beauty of the Gulf of Trieste. This is your invitation to rediscover inspiration—in the rhythms of nature, in the whispers of history, and the vibrant cultural life of a city shaped by poetry, myths, and the tides of empires. Wander along the Rilke Trail, where cliffs meet the sea and stories ride the breeze. Let the rich literary heritage of Trieste guide you—from the introspective prose of Italo Svevo and the evocative verses of Umberto Saba to the transformative presence of James Joyce. In this city, where languages and worlds once converged, creativity flows naturally—deep, layered, and unbound. The Residency Our year-round Artist Residency offers local and international creatives a space for reflection, experimentation, and artistic growth. Nestled just a 20-minute walk from the historic city center and a 25-minute bus ride to the beach, the lovingly furnished apartment becomes both a sanctuary and a launchpad for your artistic journey. This residency is ideal for artists with a deep interest in nature, mythology, fantasy, and the rich cultural tapestry of the Apennine Peninsula. Whether you are a visual artist, writer, dancer, land artist, photographer, performer, or interdisciplinary creator, you are welcome here. We especially embrace artists who are seeking space not only to create—but to pause. If you’re feeling burned out, exhausted from the relentless demand to produce—know that here, doing nothing is deeply honored. Nothing is the fertile beginning of everything. Our Vision We believe in the healing power of art. We believe in quiet. In the cycles of creation and rest. In art rooted in nature, myth, and community. Our vision is to offer artists authentic, soul-nourishing experiences that awaken both imagination and wellbeing—hoping that each resident carries these seeds into the world. The Space The apartment—bright, peaceful, and full of charm—is located on the noble promenade of Viale XX Settembre, a leafy pedestrian avenue lined with cafés, historic buildings, and hidden stories. Once the elegant strolling path of 19th-century nobility, it remains one of the city’s most enchanting walks. Perfect for individuals, families, or small artistic teams, the apartment accommodates up to 6 guests. It includes: -Two double bedrooms (one with an additional bed) -A cozy living room with a sofa bed (1 person can sleep here) and TV -A fully equipped eat-in kitchen (dishwasher, oven, induction hob, refrigerator, kettle, toaster, moka pot) -A Triestine-style bathroom layout (toilet and bidet in one room, bathtub in another) -Washing machine, air conditioning, independent heating, and WiFi -The apartment is on the first floor of a quiet, historic building (no elevator). During Your Stay -Our team is on call for any issues or support. -Please respect quiet hours: 9 PM–8 AM and 1 PM–4 PM. -To support energy sustainability, keep winter heating below 20°C. -No smoking, parties, or unregistered guests. -No bicycles or prams in the hallway. Contribution The monthly participation fee is €1800, which can be shared among multiple artists. Shorter stays (minimum 14 days) are welcomed and calculated proportionally. Trieste & Surroundings Trieste, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy, is a city of deep soul and subtle grandeur. Along Viale XX Settembre, explore charming cafés, artisan pizzerias (we recommend Al Civico 6), and the literary café Lettera Viva. In spring and winter, local markets and festivals enliven the atmosphere. Stroll from the Rossetti Theater to Piazza Unità, the largest square in Europe facing the sea. Visit the Grand Canal, the Church of St. Anthony, and the elegant architecture reminiscent of Austro-Hungarian days. The nearest beach and the legendary Miramare Castle are just a bus ride away—hop on line 6, right around the corner. Who We Invite Artists working in: -Dance & Performance -Painting & Sculpture -Photography & Land Art -Writing & Poetry -Music (especially world music or healing sound practices) -Interdisciplinary and experimental art forms WHAT YOU RECEIVE -A dedicated, quiet space for your creative process -A calm setting suitable for focused work (including visual and cultural inspiration) -Promotion of your work on our website HOW TO APPLY To apply, please send a short 1-page application including: -A brief introduction about yourself -Your artistic vision, motivation, and proposed project (or your personal interpretation of “Dolce far niente” — the Italian phrase meaning “the sweetnessof doing nothing”) -Your preferred length and month of stay (minimum 14 days) After reviewing your application, we’ll schedule a brief WhatsApp call to connect and ensure mutual alignment.
