Awakenings at Wick

Awakenings at Wick is a self-directed artist residency located in a small hamlet near Langport, Somerset, UK. It offers a unique environment where artists can live and work independently while being immersed in nature. The residency provides a range of indoor and outdoor creative spaces, including an art barn, a garage, a yoga shala, a shepherd’s hut, and 22 acres of fields, woodlands, and gardens. Artists are encouraged to shape their own creative experience, making use of both the natural landscape and shared indoor spaces. The residency does not offer traditional white-wall studios; instead, participants must define their own workspace. Accommodations include private rooms with shared or en-suite bathrooms, and residents must be self-sufficient in terms of food and daily needs. While students can apply, the residency is best suited for mature or postgraduate students. Awakenings at Wick fosters an environment for artists seeking solitude, inspiration from nature, and the freedom to experiment with their practice.

Brashnar Artist-in-Residence (BAiR)

Skopje, North Macedonia

Brashnar Artist-in-Residence (BAiR) is an urban residency program located in the Hrom neighborhood of Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia. It offers a communal living and working environment for visual artists and writers, fostering engagement with the local community and Macedonian culture. La Wayaka Current

Residencies are funded and focus on ecological and cultural engagement, encouraging artists to produce works that reflect their interaction with the local environment. The Farm emphasizes community involvement through open studios, workshops, and exhibitions, making art accessible and fostering connections between artists and the local community.

TUO TUO

Joutsa, Finland

TUO TUO is an artist-led residency situated in the former schoolhouse of Pynnölä village, Joutsa, established in January 2020. This residency is dedicated to exploring the intersections of sound, visual arts, performance, and environmental sciences within an ecological arts framework. It serves as a collaborative, ever-evolving ecosystem that supports experimentation and future-oriented community projects centered around ecological thinking. The residency is set in a rural, serene environment that stimulates transdisciplinary dialogue and pancultural pluralism, integrating deeply with both the local and international cultural landscapes. TUO TUO fosters a supportive atmosphere for residents to engage in radical rethinking across disciplines, welcoming proposals related to ecological art and research, ecopsychology, healing, poetry, and permaculture among others. Residents at TUO TUO are provided with a private bedroom, workspace access, and communal facilities including a kitchen, library, and laundry, all conducive to both solitary reflection and collective experimentation. The residency promotes sustainable living practices and provides a wood-burning sauna and spaces for social interaction and public engagement such as workshops and exhibitions.
