In partnership with the New York State Canal Corporation (Canal Corp.), the Erie Canal Museum (Museum) is seeking two (2) Erie Canal Artists-in-Residence (AIR) for a period of one (1) year. While all artists are encouraged to apply, we are specifically seeking artists with ancestral ties to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and/or Mohican Nation and artists who live or work in New York State Canal communities. The Residencies will focus on a year-long creative inquiry into the New York State Canal System – including the historic Erie Canal – reflecting on its past, contemplating its current condition, and considering its future. These Residencies are for Artists who wish to engage with the Canal and adjacent Canalway Trails, Canal Corp. and Museum staff, Canal facilities, New York’s Canal communities, and Canal visitors. The Residencies will be dedicated to projects that reflect upon the Canal’s physical, environmental, and social condition and history; materiality; and context. The Artist’s project must directly address the Canal. Applicants shall propose a specific creative visual project for their Residency that must be able to be exhibited in a gallery setting. The subject of the project shall be identified by the applicant, but proposals must be a creative inquiry of the Canal and consider a fuller, more complete account of the Canal’s past, present, and future than what has traditionally been told. The applicant shall identify their target audience(s) and how their project will be shared with that audience and with the public-atlarge. While studies of Canal communities are encouraged, the Canal and its context must be central to the project. Projects may focus on key areas of the Canal or the entire system. The New York State Canal System includes 524 miles of navigable waterways and 365 of multi-use trails. The Iris Project Residency, based in Echo Park, California, provides artists, curators, writers, musicians, and cultural thinkers with the time, space, and support to freely explore and develop their practices. Since its founding in , the residency has supported 39 creatives, offering an environment where experimentation and reflection are valued as essential components of cultural growth. Our mission is rooted in accessibility and freedom. We offer affordable, year-round residencies without production requirements, allowing participants to focus on open-ended exploration. Residents are encouraged to engage with Los Angeles’s vibrant cultural ecosystem through conversations, studio visits, and community connections, fostering relationships that extend beyond the residency itself and strengthen the broader arts landscape. Residencies are awarded on a rolling basis. Residents are responsible for their own travel, meals, and transportation. The duration of residencies varies from seven (minimum) to fourteen days. There are no publication, exhibition, or performance requirements for those awarded a residency.

**RAIR's mission is to challenge the perception of waste culture by providing a unique platform at the intersection of art and industry, and community. Residents are given access to Revolution Recovery’s waste stream as well as access to RAIR’s staff- who work closely with all residents.** **THE STANDARD RESIDENCY**: A longer, more traditional studio-based program. Standard residents are given access to waste materials and a studio and project space during the week and weekends. The MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna, is going to award a total of six scholarships for residency at the Mackey Apartments, Los Angeles, in /. These scholarships are open to four free-lance artists, two advanced students of architecture (“2. Studienabschnitt”), and graduates of architecture immediately after completion of their degree. The involvement of the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art with Rudolph M. Schindler’s work began with one of the first exhibitions held at the new MAK in 1986 entitled R. M. Schindler, Architect, 1887−1953, which was the first time his œuvre was shown in Austria. This important exhibition revealed how little known this Austrian architect’s buildings were not only in his home country but internationally as well. When in winter 1991 the MAK explored what was left of Schindler's buildings in and around Los Angeles, it quickly became obvious that the situation had changed very little in the meantime. Retracing Schindler's steps led to La Jolla, to the Pueblo Ribera built in 1923/1925 and now heavily damaged, which was in the way of the developers, to his abandoned Kings Road House, which had once been the architect’s home and studio, to Silver Lake, where some of his “most elegant” villas can still be seen, and to Newport Beach, where the icon of the Lovell Beach House has been altered by later additions. The encounter with R. M. Schindler in L.A. turned more and more into a “commitment” towards the voluntary exile and, thus, into an opportunity for Austria, the country that had lost and exiled thousands of people. This was the starting point for the idea of an initiative that would not only encourage the preservation of R. M. Schindler’s buildings but—and perhaps even more importantly—also continue his vision in order to promote and influence today’s art and architecture. Two Month Residency

The two-month residency terms are designed to provide an immersive focus on a project or body of work that responds to the history and legacy of James Castle or the site. Taking inspiration from Castle’s curious and observant nature and his daily creative practice, this residency is open to artists, scholars, creators, and professionals working in any field. Residents are provided a $4,000 stipend to support to assist with living expenses and supplies necessary to create work. Residents will share their creative practice and process with our community through several public events throughout their stay, including, but not limited to, workshops, open studios, and presentations. At the end of their term, residents will donate a selected piece reflecting their time at the James Castle House and congruent with the quality and style of work portrayed in their application. This piece will be part of the larger collection owned by the City of Boise.
