Launched in by the Françoise Association and the Cité internationale des arts, this research and creative residency programme explores the links between contemporary art, psychiatry and the humanities. Conceived as an open research space, this programme is not a therapeutic programme. It is open to artists of all nationalities whose practice resonates with the notion of the ‘clinical’. This refers to a situated approach, as close as possible to the subject, ‘at the patient’s bedside’. Within the context of the residency, this approach shifts towards the artistic field: creation is envisaged here as a grounded, relational practice, attentive to the contexts in which it takes shape. The programme thus promotes approaches that remain as close as possible to real-life narratives and experiences, and which engage in a reflection on the challenges of care. The Cité internationale des Arts, founded in 1965, is a renowned artist residency program in Paris, France. It facilitates cross-cultural dialogue and offers artists from around the world a platform to engage with the public and professionals. Annually, over 1,200 artists participate in the residency, with more than 300 new residents each month. The Cité collaborates with 135 long-standing partners from over 60 countries, fostering a rich environment for creative exchange. The residency provides 326 studios across two locations: Marais and Montmartre. These studios are designed to support various aspects of contemporary creation, offering spaces for production, experimentation, and research. Each studio, ranging from 20 m² to 60 m², includes a workspace, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area. Residents can host guests for extended periods, subject to additional charges. Artists can apply for residency through the Cité's selection committees or via its network of long-standing partners. The Cité organizes different commissions by discipline and thematic, and also collaborates with institutions to support emerging international talents through residency programs and grants.

The Urban culture laboratory

Since opening, the CENTQUATRE-PARIS has been committed to the growth and development of urban cultures. The CENTQUATRE-PARIS offers all visitors the possibility to practice any living art in its open-spaces. Visitors freely use the space to create their own stages, continuously redefining our open spaces. Since , the CENTQUATRE-PARIS has hosted a laboratory dedicated to artistic creation in the multidisciplinary field of urban culture and its interactions with public spaces. This laboratory can accommodate around fifteen artists and troupes per year. The lab is intended for independent artists, collectives, troupes and organizations, coming from all of urban culture’s artistic disciplines and all geographical horizons. After their application is granted, the artists get access to a work space at the CENTQUATRE-PARIS for a research and creation residency for a fixed period of 50 hours and - if needed - they get technical or artistic support.
