Argo Arts was my first international residency outside of Singapore- and I am beyond grateful that kismet brought me here. The space is really an incubator that is not only tender, but full of political awakenings- charged with a situ that offers much layers of history and palpable living resistances. I would totally recommend those who need a space to activate practices that are dealing with active margins of movement, the flaneur, cartography, nature and world histories.

The Argos residency was both very enjoyable and professionally very useful, suggesting to me new ways of thinking and also working. The developers of the residency Matt and Sara were very helpful responding to any artistic need I might have but also wonderfully giving the residents almost daily information about what was going on culturally in Athens. The residents were of various cultural professions offering a chance to learn about other techniques and professions.....they were all very congenial and we did many things together in the evenings. The fact that the housing and the studio were in two different neighborhoods separated by a 20 minute walk, partially thru a public garden, was a plus; to get to know a bit more of local Athens. The Archeological Museum is nearby and very worthwhile. Also worth going to are the more avant guard galleries in Piereaus and international theatre.

I loved the freedom to explore new things, the ability to fail without fear, and the support and resources to make your plans happen. Argo is creating a beautiful community within Athens, and I was welcomed into it with open arms. The connections I made there will last well beyond my residency, and the folks at Argo are instrumental in making that happen. They are deep in the heart of the scene there and can help you navigate toward what you might need. Athens is a city that moves at it's own pace, and convenience is deprioritized to connection. If your work is highly specialized, I would talk to the team about things you may need.
